In this drawing, I combine the symbolism of Kālī with Brahmanda.
Kālī, the first of the ten Mahavidyas, the intense or fierce form of the goddess, she without whom the great god Śiva, her husband, is as a corpse. Her name is derived from the word ‘Kāla’ which is at once symbolic of cosmic time, and darkness. Kālī is most often characterized as black or blue, completely naked, with disheleved hair, a lolling tongue and wearing a garland of skulls.
The world egg, cosmic egg or orphic egg is a motif that is found in the mythologies of various cultures and civilzations. It usually represents the beginning or birth of the universe. In Hindu philosophy, it is known as the Hiranyagarbha (Golden Womb) or Brahmanda (Cosmic Egg) which floats in a dark void and eventually splits into two, giving birth to the universe.
Kālī, the great goddess contains the universe, or rather the universe is all Her.
